Description
The marriage of Chiang Kai-shek and Mei-ling Soong "connected the three big families, Chiang, Soong, and Kung, and formed an essential force in the political landscape of China in the modern age. It was also a prelude to the collaborations and conflicts that would play out among the family members on the political stage." Using that marriage as a key to understanding what follows, this program picks up the intertwined threads of the Chiang Kai-shek story and carries the action through to the end of 1936. The relationship formed between T. V. Soong-now patriarch of the Soong family-and his brothers-in-law Chiang Kai-shek and H. H. Kung is given special attention. Commentary is provided by Chiang Kai-shek biographer Wang Feng; former Kuomintang Party Archives Officer Shao Ming-huang; history professors Wu Jing-ping and Liu Wei-kai; Lin Bo-wen, author of The Secret Files of Chang Hsueh-liang and T.V. Soong; and others.
