Puerto Rican seventeen-year-old Manny Rivera can't believe it when his mother and stepfather announce they are moving to the Bronx in New York from their home in Texas the summer before Manny begins his senior year. To make matters worse, they expect him to spend the summer helping his stepfather finish setting up the luxury condo he's managing there. Luckily, he quickly befriends Sasha Betancourt, who is protesting the building and the gentrification it represents, and his elderly neighbor, Mr. Mueller, the building's exterminator. But Manny soon begins having cockroach-related nightmares, uncharacteristic bursts of intense rage, and a sneaking suspicion that something sinister is lurking in the shadows of the building.
