Description
In 1786, thirteen-year-old Alma lives in an isolated African valley with her family, but her life is turned upside down when her little brother finds a way out of the valley. Alma embarks on a journey to track him down and finds herself thrust into the dangerous world of the slave trade that has consumed the continent of Africa. In Lisbon, Joseph Mars manages to sneak onboard the slave ship, "The Sweet Amelie," in search of pirate treasure, but he is shocked when he learns of the slave trade's terror and brutality. Alma and Joseph's paths soon cross, and their journeys will take them across land and sea on a perilous adventure that will change their lives forever.
