Description
Provides a picture book biography of African American Mamie "Peanut" Johnson who played for an all-white, all-boys Police Athletic League team as a girl but was rejected by the all-white All-American Girls Professional Baseball League as a young woman. Later, at age nineteen, she left her husband and infant son behind to play three seasons with the Indianapolis Clowns in the Negro Leagues in 1953, and became the only professional female pitcher to play on a men's team.
